Selling your home is all about maximizing its value. And that means taking steps to make sure your home looks its best. You want it to stand out from the crowd. The more attractive your home is to potential buyers, the more they will be willing to pay for it. This means a bigger return on investment for you, the seller. Here is a home selling checklist that includes some of the essential steps that you should take before listing your home on the market.

chaos

It may be your valuables, but to outsiders it is nothing more than extra clutter. And clutter can be a real change. When it comes to selling your home, less is always more. Move from room to room and de-clutter your living environment. Wipe down counters, windows, tables and all other visible areas. Don’t forget about closets, drawers, and cabinets, too.

Potential buyers can (and will) look everywhere in the home they’re considering. If the house is full of stuff, then it starts to look small in their eyes. They will worry that there is not enough space in the house for their belongings. They may also feel that the house is messy and disorganized. No one wants to buy a dirty house.

Do yourself a favor and de-clutter your home already. Deal with your extra stuff, whether you donate it, sell it, throw it out, or pack it up for offsite storage. Clearing clutter will not only help your home look more attractive to buyers, but it will also help you when it comes time to pack up and move.

repaint (using neutral colors)

You might like that orange wall. However, if it’s your potential buyer’s least favorite color, that would be a change. Repaint in neutral colors that are more appealing to a wider range of people. Furthermore, the light colors enable the buyers to visualize how the walls would look with the color of their choice.

That said, many people don’t want to buy a home if they think they’ll have to repaint it themselves. Most home buyers are not looking for a renovation project. So it is better to paint the house yourself before listing it for sale. The sweat you put into painting will add to the value of your home. Also, remember that it is the seller’s job to help the buyer picture themselves in the home.
