Tips for Real Estate Drone Photography

1. Create Settings.

Candid shots are great for capturing family and friends, but not so great when it comes to real estate. Before you start shooting, make sure the exterior of the house is clean and damage-free. Don’t forget to mow the lawn and do other landscaping touch-ups for an attractive “frame” for your photos.

2. Use natural light.

Natural light usually shows off properties to their best advantage, but consider the timing. Sunsets and sunrises can provide a stunning backdrop, but watch out for shadows that can ruin your carefully composed shots.

3. Choose a strategic focal point.

Drone photography offers all the benefits of wide shots that were previously difficult or impossible to obtain. You can use lighting, framing, and other tricks to draw a viewer’s attention to a property’s main attraction, such as an outdoor pool or spacious balconies.

4. Use a wide range of shots and angles.

Don’t get so carried away by the novelty of aerial photography that you forget other aspects. Be sure to include low-level shots of the details that make the home special. There’s no such thing as too many pictures, but without planning the real prospect isn’t enough.

5. Study other pictures.

Like any creative endeavor, you can draw inspiration for drone photography from the works of others. Study photos whenever possible, taking note of what works and what doesn’t.
